I find it strange that today we're talking about things which three years ago were unimaginable. Things which have actually come to pass which right minded folks on both sides of the aisle would have just shaken their heads and said, "that's just not possible, that will never happen."
A boiling frog only survives when it senses danger and jumps out, so am I a frog that can't tell the temperature is changing?
I was raised in a world where you knew who the enemy was, or more simply who your rival was. The opposing baseball team wore red and we wore blue, it was skins against the shirts, it was the Yanks beating the Nazis, it was Americans defeating the Japanese. The enemy was clear and present, but the world has changed...the temperature has changed so gradually over a long period of time that the frogs can't sense the danger and get out of the pot! Who is the enemy?
The strange thing is, if I'm going to jump out of the proverbial pot...where do I go? I'm a patriot and find it hard to fathom that I'm even thinking about the options, but the notion that there's something left here to fight for is the real issue.
Believing that everyone is either motivated to move towards pleasure or away from pain (the classic struggle of good versus evil), the best way I can boil all this down seems to be fundamentally about a global conflict around an opposing set of beliefs. At its simplest, the conflict in beliefs comes down to those who believe that government is the problem, and those who believe that government is the solution. If you look at what has transpired in mob-rule mentality of storming the Capitol in Wisconsin, or any other number of local, national and international "crisis" points, it appears that m
ost people are brainwashed statists who unquestioningly hold to the belief that government is the solution.
Look at what's happening in Greece right now. It is already spreading to Spain. France and Italy will follow shortly...with the same kind of rioting in the streets to show up in Belgium, the U.K. and eventually right here in the U.S.
There are Constitutional Conservatives who believe that you should "stay and fight" but I'm wondering how to answer the question, "who am I fighting?" Just last month Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) got a domestic disturbance call from a neighbor of a Bank of America executive whose home had been surrounded by over 500 brown shirted union protesters. When four MCPD units arrived on the scene, they learned that the SEIU buses had been escorted there by Washington, D.C. Police! How is this cross-jurisdictional escort activity rationalized? Are the police there to protect the innocent or support the protest?
When you see NYPD storm troopers 'patrolling' an area in full combat gear: Kevlar helmet, flak vest, semi-automatic 9mm sidearm, Colt model 933 with M900 foregrip and M68 aimpoint and a few of them had M203 variety grenade launchers fitting snugly underneath the barrel. To what do we owe the deployment of such unnecessary firepower? An invasion of the Canadian hordes like the idiots rioting in Vancouver after the Stanley Cup? Terrorists on the loose? No. Weiner holding a press conference about how he couldn't keep himself in his pants...clearly an individual who feels important enough to merit an intimidating death squad in his vicinity. And this from someone who had the audacity from "inside" the political machine to try and bring about the demise of Glenn Beck through unfounded claims of "ethics" violations!
What I'm really seeing is that the Police are essentially becoming the protectors and enforcers of the political class. This is really a battle of ideas and the reality is that the machine of the political elite has been mobilizing for a long, long time...laying the groundwork for many years for what is now showing up. What is really concerning is that this is really a big faceless void of government itself... politicians, bureaucrats, judges, low-level workers, regulatory agencies, etc. We're not talking about a single individual here, but an entire institution and labyrinth of bureaucracies which have become "too large to fail" and are therefore being protected at all costs to preserve what is unsustainable. If you're "inside" the system, you'll be fine until it eventually collapses (which history proves it always does), but it is those "outside" that are going to pay the price. The foundation of Tyranny has been laced throughout our society and even the good-hearted but unknowing are being used to accomplish the goal.
Having personally lived through a situation of being forced to deal with an insurance company as my late spouse was fighting for her life, I know what a faceless bureaucracy feels and acts like. What do you do when your insurance company raises your rates, takes your money, provides you with poor service or completely denies your claim? Do you petition for change? Do you try and convince fellow insured to demand new management? Do you stalk the customer service center in some unknown location? No, of course not. You simply have limited options. Unlike an insurance company or a credit card company where I can ultimately vote with my checkbook, is it really that simple to think of my country of domicile as a provider where I can just opt out and change?
If you recognize that the trend is bad (the water is heating up), I'm at least thinking that I need to have a plan to safeguard myself, my family, my livelihood, and the few remaining assets I can actually call mine. I need to have a plan, something that extends beyond the unrealistic (voting the bums out, all that gets us is more politicians) and the mythical (doing battle in the streets, who do you think is going to win that scenario?).
For me it's time to reject the fantasy that voting actually makes any difference and check in to reality. I'm trying to make a grounded appraisal of the situation, and determine whether it's smart to stick around. I honestly don't know, but just the fact I'm thinking about this is what has me shaking my head in disbelief. It boggles my mind that I'm grateful I've got my passport because I actually believe the government is looking for ways to limit the travel of citizens. Have you heard about the new "long form" application for Passports? How is it that the worldwide dialogue has been so perverted that it makes Israel out to be the bad guys? Is Israel the tipping point? If Israel goes down, how long before the Western way of life follows?
I just need to make sure I have strong safeguards in place, a plan to execute if I ever deem it necessary. What I'm not at all clear about is the tipping point, what is the clear delineation of my breaking point? Will I have enough information in enough time to implement the exit strategy before all hell breaks lose?
